Reduced chloride penetration into concrete by means of formwork
Abstract
In this field project all of the structural elements of a bridge were cast on land under controlled conditions. Four of the eight pillars were cast with fabric-treated formwork. Tests were performed on each pillar to investigate the properties of the near surface concrete layer. The preliminary results show a significant improvement of the surface near concrete layers’ properties for formwork treated with fabrics compared to plain plywood. Some pillars were also treated with two different types of chloride barrier. It is, however, too early to see any significant difference between the two products.
