Abstract

This paper presents old truths; many people in civil engineering have the same thoughts and experience as put forward in the following. However, the paper attempts to present a system ensuring a beneficial use of the data collected from instrumentation. Often this data is reported in big volumes and then only used to check points more or less in a random fashion. If instrumentation is properly designed and executed, i.e. the interests of the actors in the construction is clearly defined, such data has the real possibility of gaining experience to be used in future projects. The possibility of one person alone posessing enough experience to cover all aspects of say, a complex bridge structure, is unrealistic and the IDV-System may be a useful method. Some other papers are presented at this conference dealing with more details of the IDV-system.
