Design and construction of an ultra long span bridge
Abstract
The design criteria and special requirements of ultra-long span crossings are discussed and a concept put forward for a bridge of 5000m span. The project is studied with special reference to the Gibraltar crossing. The concept is unique in that it provides inherent stability against aerodynamic excitation and satisfies most structural problems associated with long span bridges. The viability of the scheme is discussed.
