Abstract

In 1986 the first preinvestigations for a subsea road tunnel to the island of Magerøya in Finnmark, Norway were carried out. The route of the tunnel has in many ways been directed by parameters outside. Road building in arctic areas make it necessary to pay special attention to weather and topography. An important goal for the preinvestigations has been to keep the costs low, and not to do more work than required for evaluation of the feasibility. During the engineering period, efforts have been put in evaluation of principals and handeling of water leakages.
