An undersea-tunnel solution for linking Brier Island to mainland Nova Scotia
Abstract
Brier Island and Long Island are the faulted segments of the Digby Neck peninsula that borders Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. A permanent connection between the islands and the mainland for road traffic is becoming a viable concept. The two options (bridge and tunnel) for linking Brier Island to Long Island are briefly compared. The undersea tunnel option is further discussed on a pre-feasibility level with reference to the geologic setting of the site, the conceptual layout and design of the tunnel, and construction methodology.
