Abstract

The Trans-Tokyo Bay Highway (TTBH) is a bridge-and-tunnel project approximately 15 kilometers in length, spanning Tokyo Bay from Kawasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture to Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture. Designed exclusively for vehicular traffic, the Highway comprises a ten kilometer shield-type sea-bottom tunnel on the Kawasaki side to the west and a five kilometer bridge originating at Kisarazu in the east. One man-made island has been constructed at the midpoint of the tunnel, and another at the connection between the tunnel and bridge.
