Parameter sensitivty of predicted extreme response for a submerged tubular bridge
Abstract
Extreme response predictions for a submerged tubular bridge subjected to wave loading are addressed. Emphasis is put on variation and uncertainties in physical parameters and some model parameters entering the wave load response analysis for this particular type of structure. Some parameters to which the response quantities are most sensitive are identified. This knowledge will indicate where to put the primary efforts of accurate modelling, possible laboratory measurements and later full scale verification of in situ and as built values of the parameters. Parameter sensitivities are presented for a specific bridge site and concept. The design consequence of the uncertainties in the parameters to which the structural response is sensitive, is exemplified through a probabilistic design check for a specific limit state. The design check formulation is simplified in terms of number of parameters but it is realistic with respect to methodology.
