Design and construction of terminal joint in the Tama River and Kawasaki Fairway tunnels
Abstract
Tunnels consisting of submerged structures are currently under construction in Tokyo Bay. The terminal joints in these tunnels are constructed by a new method explained in the present report. This new technique offers great advantages because no underwater work or temporary cofferdam is required, whereas these are inevitable with the conventional method. This paper gives an outline of this new terminal block method, explains the design approach, and discusses experiments used to check its effectiveness.
