Abstract

The Askøy Bridge is a narrow, one span suspension bridge with a 850 m suspended span, presently the longest single span in Scandinavia. Some aspects of the Askøy Bridge are rather typical also for other Norwegian suspension bridges. The paper presents salient design and construction aspects of the bridge, in particular with respect to the suspended span (stiffening girder, cables), saddles, cable anchorages and towers (pylons).
