Innovative methods of constructing concrete immersed tubes in the urban environment
Abstract
The paper discusses two innovative applications for construction of the rectangular concrete immersed tubes in urban areas. The first application considers constructing of the immersed units afloat in the river eliminating the need for a casting basin. The second application consists of replacing conventional tube ballast with caissons located below and structurally attached to the tube.The caissons serve as the supports for the tunnel, protecting structures located below from being overloaded, and act as additional ballast weight through a special anchor detail as well.
