Abstract

Three refraction and reflection seismic sections were recorded in the central part near the villages of Bigorio and Odogno and at the south portal near Vezia. The main survey objective is to optimise the positioning of boreholes. The localisation of fault zones and the determination of their general orientation are of primary interest. A quantitive evaluation of the rock quality in fault zones is achieved by mapping anomalies of the velocity gradient field with the help of refraction seismic evaluation techniques. At Vezia, the construction site of the south portal was characterised by applying high resolution seismic refraction and reflection methods. Here, the seismic data were calibrated with borehole information for a prediction of the rock quality over the total length of the seismic profile.
