Abstract

In some regions of Sweden, the exploitation of glacio-fluvial gravel and sand, together with the conservancy of these sediments, has resulted in a shortage of this kind of material for road construction. As an alternative, till can be used for this purpose which is very rich in the country. In order to effectively utilize till for construction, two important issues are addressed here. One is to find the geological factors that are essential when searching for such till. Common search techniques are also discussed. The other concerns how and what extent the geotechnical properties of the processed till material that is to be used for the construction have been changed in comparison with the natural till. It appears that the decision concerning how to produce the gravel surface material must be a question of costs together with the quality of the available till.
