An experimental and numerical investigation of the hydration of compacted powdered boom clay
Abstract
Experimental results of hydration experiments on compacted clay plugs employing X-ray tomography are presented. A theoretical formulation for the analysis of coupled heat, moisture and air transfer, applicable to non-deformable unsaturated soils, is developed and applied to the simulation of the hydration experiments. Good correlation between the numerical and experimental results was obtained.
