Abstract

This paper presents the results of on going research in the numerical modelling of cyclic and dynamic loading of soils. The work presented in the paper shows the application of a kinematic elasto-plastic soil model to undrained cyclic triaxial tests and to undrained loading of a ‘column’ of saturated sand. The results clearly show the ability of the model to reproduce the softening behaviour of the sand due to the build up of excess pore water pressures leading to failure.
