On the mechanical behaviour of sand reinforced with geotextiles
Abstract
Some experimental and numerical results are presented concerning the behaviour of a cohesionless soil reinforced with geotextiles. First, triaxial compression tests on reinforced sand samples are illustrated and simulated through “non homogeneous” finite element analyses in which soil and geotextile layers are independently discretized. Then, a non isotropic yield condition is adopted for the analysis of the same tests and some conclusions are drawn on advantages and shortcomings of this homogeneous, non isotropic model. Finally, a simple reinforced earth structure is studied using both non homogeneous and non isotropic finite element schemes.
