Abstract

In open excavations under groundwater level, control of water inflow is usually achieved by lateral walls, embedded some depth below the excavation level. In pervious soils, grouting under the excavation bottom between the walls is a common method for additional flow control. Under these conditions, the performance of “the solution is usually checked by measuring the amount of water inflow into the excavation and the variations of water levels outside the lateral walls. Both parameters are governed by the permeabilities of the untreated and treated ground. In this paper a solution of the problem is presented. The results are given in non-dimensional charts and applied to an actual case.
