Finite element analysis of the failure of a sandstone cave roof in Nottingham
Abstract
The failure process within a sandstone cave roof in Nottingham has been simulated on a computer model. Numerical results are compared with a real destructive test of a sandstone cave roof. The geometry and material properties of the numerical models have a significant bearing on the simulation results. With an appropriate consideration of these two aspects, numerical models can be successfully employed to duplicate the failure processes of rock structures.
