The influence of crushed rock salt particle gradation on compaction
Abstract
This paper presents results of laboratory compaction testing to determine the influence of particle size, size gradation and moisture content on compaction of crushed rock salt. Included is a theoretical analysis of the optimum size gradation. The objective is to evaluate the relative densities that can be achieved with tamping techniques. Initial results indicate that compaction increases with maximum particle size and compaction energy, and varies significantly with particle size gradation and water content.
