Inelastic seismic-response analysis of composite frames
Abstract
A method of inelastic seismic response analysis has been developed for composite building frames consisting of steel beams (acting compositely with a metal-deck reinforced slab) and encased composite columns. Sample time-history analyses have been conducted on a six-story composite frame subjected to ground excitation. This paper presents the analysis method, analytical modeling and discussions of the seismic response results such as (1) fundamental natural period, (2) member responses, (3) story displacements, (4) story shear forces, (5) interstory drift ratios, (6) member failures, (7) determination of the ultimate seismic-resistant capacity of structures, and (8) effect of earthquake duration.
