Abstract

The use of hollow sections in civil engineering requires a detailed investigation of bolted hollow section joints. Based on existing test results, design guidelines are checked for their applicability regarding hollow sections. In addition, proposals for a design concept are provided. The topic of interest is on the load capacity and the governing parameters. The maximum load capacity can be increased through structural measures. Particularly a variation in the arrangement of the bolts results in an increase of the load capacity.
