Abstract

The simple connection between the steel column footing and the concrete foundation could have a significant rigidity for the overall frame analysis. This rigidity could be used in serviceability limit state to limit the horizontal drift of the frame. The moment–axial force–rotation (M − N − ϕ) curve for column bases with unstiffened base plates is described in this paper. The complex analytical prediction model based on elastic and elastic plastic stress distribution under the base plate is derived. In sequence the model is simplified for the constant axial force. The parametrical study of the main parameters of the complex and simplified models is included. The complex model is compared to the experimental results.
