Abstract

This paper is concerned with the stability of tubular steel beam-columns which are candidates for use in deep-water applications, such as pipelines and members of offshore towers. These members are subjected to a combination of thrust and bending in the presence of high external pressure that may cause buckling. The response of such members under pressure, axial compression and bending is examined and the results are compared with the provisions of the recent API specification.
