Abstract

The state-of-the art is presented of the theory of fatigue crack nucleation, growth and fracture due to fatigue. New models of fatigue crack propagation are discussed based on the synthesis of micromechanics of dispersed damage accumulation and the macromechanics of fracture. The problem is considered of the residual life prediction of damaged structural components with account of randomness of loads, actions, and material properties. The influence of cracks and crack-like defects distributed in a structure on the safety factors is discussed.
