Abstract

In general, rock is regarded as an isotropic body, and the mechanichal properties of rock are estimated, based on the isotropy of it. But, in some cases, rock shows remarkable anisotropy in the mechanical properties. This paper describes a method for estimating of the directions of the elastic principal axes and the coefficients of compliance in the orthotropic rock, and the experimental results obtained with granodiorite.
