Effect of an elastic foundation on the postbuckling of beams under compressive loads
Abstract
In this paper, the finite-degree-of- freedom discrete representation is made to investigate the stability characteristics of elastically supported beams with different types of end conditions. With the perturbation technique, the ranges of relative foundation stiffness corresponding to stable postbuckling behavior are determined. It is noted that postbuckling behavior depends mainly on the relative foundation stiffness, and the stable and the unstable postbuckling may assume the same deflection form.
