Bracing of open web joists by standing seam roof systems
Abstract
Tests show that standing seam roof systems can provide lateral bracing to the compression chords of open web steel joists. The bracing force is transferred primarily by the sheeting enveloping the chord and to some extent by friction. Classic theory for continuous bracing force and stiffness give reasonable predictions and design considerations are suggested.
