Analysis of elasto-plastic behavior of beam-columns failing in local buckling
Abstract
Elasto-plastic post-buckling analysis is performed to trace the behavior of wide-flange beamcolumns, which were tested previously. The effect of local buckling is taken into account by using a degrading type of stress-stain relation. Two analytical models are employed to solve the deflection. The one is a beamcolumn divided into a number of elements, and the solution is searched by the shooting method together with a proposed way of combining a degrading type moment-curvature relation with the numerical integration scheme. The other assumes that the deformation occurs only at the base portion, where the curvature distributes uniformly. It becomes known that numerically-stable solution independent of the number of subdivided elements is obtained by the former, and that both analyses underestimate the strengths obtained in the tests, but well trace the strengthdeteriorating behavior due to the local buckling.
