A numerical validation study for pseudodynamic analysis of semi-rigid composite sway frames
Abstract
The performance of low-rise composite sway frames is investigated in order to assess their suitability to aseismic construction. A pseudodynamic approach incorporated with an analytical substructuring technique is proposed. This method significantly reduces the complexity of the experimental analysis which is so limited to testing of critical subassemblies. Moreover, it can also account for stability effects and post-ultimate softening behaviour of members and joints. The preliminary numerical study focuses on selection of proper boundary conditions between experimental and analytical substructures. Numerical results also contribute to the evaluation of frame performances and definition of joint ductility demands under strong earthquakes.
