Abstract

After a short description of the main capabilities of Finelg, a nonlinear finite element program, the formulation of an accurate and efficient nonlinear spatial beam finite element is presented. The corotational total description is used to define its tangent matrix; the current deformed shape is taken into account without any membrane or bending locking. Its accuracy is illustrated with two examples which nonlinear behaviour is obvious.
