Abstract

A series of nine circular cold-formed curved CHS steel tubes infilled with higher strength concrete of 70 MPa compressive strength was tested to assess the general behaviour of these composite sections. Three different radii of initial curvature, 2 m, 4 m, and 10 m were selected to examine the effects of small and large initial curvatures. A method to calculate the strength of the composite tubes is presented based on an initial sinusoidal deflected form of the curved tubes. The method uses the intersection of the cross section and elastic behaviour analyses. There is good agreement between the calculated and the test results.
