Design procedures for bolting steel plates to the sides of reinforced concrete beams
Abstract
An inexpensive procedure is described for upgrading existing reinforced concrete beams by bolting steel plates to their sides. Methods for determining the increase in both the flexural strength and shear strength will be described, and it will be shown how flexibility of the bolts can reduce these strengths due to the effect of partial interaction.
