Inelastic local buckling in grade 300 universal columns
Abstract
This paper describes tests carried out on 6 grade 300 rolled steel UCs with a flange slenderness ratio of 9.58 in order to determine their inelastic rotation capacities under combined axial load and flexure. Performance was good, with high retention of axial and flexural strength in the presence of severe local buckling. Attempts to model the observed behaviour using a thin-walled beam element with local buckling are described.
