Abstract

The present paper deals with the cyclic inelastic large deflection analysis of steel structural m embers. Two types of elasto-plastic finite element form ulations for beam-columns and plates, accounting for both the m aterial and geometrical nonlinearities, were developed and implemented in the computer program FEA P used in the analysis. The two-surface plasticity model, recently developed by the authors, is employed for material nonlinearity. The model accounts for the im portant cyclic characteristics of structural steel, even w ithin the yield plateau, such as, reduction of the elastic range, the decrease and disappearance of the yield plateau and cyclic hardening. The cyclic elasto-plastic performance of the formulations is compared with the experim ental results as well as the results obtained from other m aterial models.
