Abstract

In the past full scale tests on steel portal frame buildings have been conducted under gravity and racking loads in different parts of the world which has produced useful data on the behaviour and design of these structures. However, such previous research results must be re-evaluated when new structural sections and connections or new construction methods are used under different loading conditions. Therefore a full scale test program was conducted to investigate the use of the new hollow flange beam section in portal frame buildings under the governing load case of wind uplift. This paper presents the details of some tests conducted on a full scale HFB portal frame building and the results.
