Abstract

In this paper, tests on the lateral buckling of cold-formed RHS beams under uniform bending moment are described. The section size chosen for testing was 75 mm x 25 mm x 2.5 mm. The beam spans varied from 2000 mm to 7000 mm to produce a large range of beam slenderness ratios. A FEM analysis of RHS beams under uniform bending moment is presented. Comparisons between the FEM analysis and the test results are shown. Comparisons of the tests results and the design rules in existing standards are summarised. An improved design rule is given for the lateral buckling of cold-formed RHS beams.
