Performance of bored piles in weathered meta-sedimentary rocks in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Abstract
The performance of bored piles in the residual weathered meta-sedimentary rock formation (Kenny Hill) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was investigated on the basis of 14 fully instrumented bored piles. At the design load the load was primarily carried through skin friction. The pile-soil load transfer curves along the pile shaft were found to be uniquely normalized with the critical shaft resistance and critical displacement. The uniqueness only exist for each construction method, i.e. dry hole or wet hole. The critical shaft and base resistance is a function of the SPT-N value which was found to be the index property that sufficiently classify the weathered profile in these rocks.
