Abstract

Different applications of geofabric as reinforcement in soil are described in the paper as well as methods to evaluate the stability of retaining walls, embankments and steep slopes in residual soils and weathered rock and to stabilize very soft clay for land reclamation. The main advantages with woven geofabric are the high strength, the high ductility and the relatively low cost. The main limitations are the relatively large deformations and creep, the reduction of the strength when the material is subjected to direct sunlight and to high temperatures during e.g. a fire.
