Abstract

Procedures for performing slope stability analysis involving unsaturated soils are summarized in this paper. The relevant theory, measurements of parameters and example calculations associated with unsaturated soils are discussed. The characteristics of water flow, pore-water pressure changes and shear strength of unsaturated soils are the main topics pertinent to slope stability analysis involving unsaturated soils which are directly affected by rainfall and evaporation (i.e., flux boundary problems).
