Crisp and its applications to the study of slopes and cuts
Abstract
Conventional limit equilibrium analysis can not be utilized to explore the effects of initial states of stress, stress history, soil stress-strain relations, stress paths to failure, differing constraints on boundary displacements and construction sequence on stability of slopes. In order to investigate the above effects, a new measure of safety called normalized safety margin is introduced and subsequently incorporated in finite element analysis. It is illustrated through an example of a 2-dimensional slope that initial states of stress and stress path to failure have a modest influence on the perception of safety.
