Areal observation of blowing snow using a telemetering network of snow particle counters
Abstract
This paper describes a new system for areal observation of blowing snow. A telemetering system of snow particle counters (SPCs), the photoelectronic instruments measuring the number and size of blowing snow particles, was developed in the Ishikari Plain, Hokkaido, Japan. Data measured at two observation sites were automatically transmitted every one minute to the main station. The results of an observation in January 1994 showed an ability of the system for areal observation of blowing snow.
