Effect of characteristics of the electric heating cable on snow melting
Abstract
There are three kinds of cables which are used for snow melting system in roads. Those are classified according to the materials of the inner wire and the outer insulator. Nichrome cable is generally used, but recently Carbon and Softelec (Teijin) are used also. In this study thermal properties of heating panels using three kinds of heating cables were tested in a cold chamber. The heating efficiency was graded as Softelec, Carbon, Nichrome, in that order. A model of thermal conduction is also discussed. The effect of the characteristics of a heating cable on snow melting is summarized.
