Snow disasters on roads in Heilongjian Province, China
Abstract
A study of snow hazards on roads in Heilongjian Province, China, was carried out at the beginning of March 1994. It was found that ice on the roads in flat regions was not slippery because of the soil particles in it. On the other hand, roads in mountainous regions were covered with slippery snow and ice. Although the snow conditions on the roads are not a serious hazard at this time due to the low volume of traffic, measures to prevent accidents will be necessary in the future due to the expected increase in traffic volume.
