Abstract

The bored piers represent a very efficient deep foundation elements for carrying large lateral loads. The purpose of this paper is to present a modified approach to the construction of https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> p ¯ - y curves taking into account the effet of the rectangular shape of the cross section on the behaviour of bored piers subjected to lateral loading in homogeneous sand. The principle of the proposed approach consists in the composition between the lateral reaction curve ( https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> p ¯ l a t - y)and the frontal reaction curve ( https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> p ¯ f r - y).
