Field performance of the Shawnee Trail bridge wingwalls
Abstract
A precast concrete retaining wall system has been developed recently as an integral component of a patented short-span bridge system. The standard specifications are not directly relevant in design of the reference retaining structure due to its peculiar shape. In order to gain an insight into the behavior of the soil-structure system and evaluate the design methodology, a series of earth pressure cells was installed on the back face of the wingwalls during construction. The earth pressure cells were monitored over a three-year period. The compilation of field data and evaluation of design methodology are presented herein.
