Geotechnical analysis of skin friction of cast-in-place piles
Abstract
A rational method to evaluate the shaft resistance of cast-in-place piles in sandy soils is presented on the basis of geomechanical considerations. The critical state friction angle is shown to be effective as the design parameter for evaluating skin friction. An empirical equation for the coefficient of horizontal stress has also been proposed considering the soil-pile interaction mechanism. The applicability of the model is verified through the use of a newly developed in-situ friction test and full scale pile load tests in volcanic ash sandy ‘Shirasu’ ground.
