Application of the centrifuge model technique to the investigation of wave screening with vertical walls
Abstract
Experimental investigation has been carried out to study the effects towards a reduction of acceleration amplitudes due to isolation measures of foundations subjected to vertical impulse load. Tests are conducted on a surface footing. A vertical solid barrier like a concrete wall with dimensions of one Rayleigh-wave length is considered. From the results of the centrifuge model investigations it is found, that a barrier near the load source is more effective for screening the waves than a barrier in the far-field. Application of the centrifuge model technique shows that emphasis is layed on practical problems with natural boundary conditions.
