Deep collapse of square thin-walled cantilever-beams subjected to combined bending and torsion
Abstract
This paper describes a number of quasi-static combined bending and torsional load tests carried out on closed-hat section, thin-walled steel cantilever beams. How certain forms of localised collapse mechanisms develop in each of these beams for a particular load combination are described. These observations provide insight into how kinematically admissible collapse models may be constructed to assess the crashworthiness of a car roof during a roll-over crash.
