Pull-out capacity of screwed connections in steel cladding systems
Abstract
An investigation was carried out to study the local failure which occurs when a screw fastener pulls out of steel battens, purlins or girts in steel cladding systems. Both two- span cladding tests and small scale tests were conducted. In order to model the pull-out behaviour of steel cladding systems more accurately, an improved design formula was developed in terms of thickness, ultimate tensile strength of steel, thread diameter and pitch of screw. This paper presents the details of this experimental investigation and its results.
