Interactive buckling in fibrous pultruded I-section composite beams
Abstract
Interactive buckling of I-section fibrous composite beams is discussed in this paper. The flanges are considered as beam elements when the member bends lateraly under the prebuckling stress distribution, and as plate elements for normal bending and twisting; the web is analyzed as a plate element. A detailed parametric study demonstrates that improved designs can be suggested which show superior performance of the flange in both pre and postbuckling, while web distortion caused by interactive buckling requires improvement of the bending stiffness in a vertical direction.
