Abstract

This paper gives details of a study of the overload behaviour and strength of concrete framed structures when subjected to non-proportional loadings. A special analytic procedure is described which simulates the overload behaviour and collapse of a concrete frame when subjected to vertical and horizontal loads which are applied in sequence. Comparisons are made of the effects of applying loads sequentially and simultaneously to a portal frame system. The results indicate that load capacity for sequentially applied loads can be predicted with good accuracy by using an equivalent proportional load system.
